CIRCADIAN RHYTHM
What happens if the human body's biological clock is disrupted? Sleep is critical for humanity because some vital physiological repairs that are required can only be performed while sleeping. The circadian rhythm in the human body is also important for sleep because it is responsible for the secretion of hormones such as blood pressure regulation, melatonin, and growth hormone. As a result, disrupting this rhythm can cause many diseases. Three important solutions can be implemented to avoid these diseases: not using technological devices before going to bed, avoiding jet lag, and not working night shifts.
The
first important problem of disturbance of the circadian rhythm is the lights
emitted by electronic devices. Because the sun emits blue light in the morning
and sends signals to the human body that it is time to wake up. When people
look at their phones right before bed, they expose themselves to blue light,
which wakes them up. For these reasons, electronic devices should be turned off
two hours before bedtime. In addition, sleeping near electronic devices such as
televisions, phones, or tablets should be avoided.
The
jet lag effect is another problem that disrupts the circadian rhythm. People's
circadian rhythms are adjusted by the time zone in which they live. Jet lag
occurs when the circadian rhythm is unable to adjust to the new time zone in a
short period. Loss of appetite and bodily pain are symptoms of this condition. There
are no treatments, but the following are some suggestions. Firstly, do not
overwork yourself the day before and on the day of the flight. Secondly, choose
flight times that allow you to arrive early in the evening. Finally, staying
awake during daylight hours aids in the elimination of jet lag.
The
third problem that disrupts the circadian rhythm is the night shift. In the
case of night shifts, people become awake when they should be sleeping, and
this process disrupts people's internal rhythms. As a result, digestive
issues are common among shift workers. To avoid this, it is critical to
prioritize foods like fiber, fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole wheat bread.
In other words, complex carbohydrates should be preferred over simple
carbohydrates because simple carbohydrates can cause blood sugar
irregularities.
In conclusion, three factors disrupt the circadian rhythm: light, jet lag, and night shifts. To avoid disrupting the circadian rhythm, turn off all electronic devices and sleep in a dark room before going to bed. Flight hours that can land early in the evening may be preferred to avoid jet lag. Also, if at all possible, avoid night shifts for your health's sake, because your health comes first.
